Empowerment Scholarships

Value: $1,000.00 each - 1 Youth and 1 Member

For over 40 years the Native Council of P.E.I. has provided representation to all Status, non-Status, Inuit, and Metis Indigenous peoples living off-reserve. This scholarship was created by a resolution passed on October 25, 2015, with the intent of addressing the need for Indigenous students living off-reserve to access affordable post-secondary education. This award is available thanks to the generous contributions of L’Nu Fisheries Limited.

To qualify for the student award, applicants must be:

  • Full-time students at a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Self-identified Indigenous youth living off-reserve
  • Less than 29 years of age at the start of the school year
  • In financial need of a scholarship (i.e. tuition is not fully covered by other means)

To qualify for the member award, applicants must be:

  • Full-time students at a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Self-identified Indigenous adult living off-reserve
  • Over the age of 29 at start of the school year
  • In financial need of a scholarship (i.e. tuition is not fully covered by other means)

 

Applicants who qualify can apply by submitting the attached form completed, a recent color photograph, and a one page (maximum 500 words) introduction letter. The letter may include topics such as the impact that identifying as an Indigenous youth has had on your life, the importance of your culture, your future academic and career plans, and how this scholarship will help you to succeed

Recipients selected for the award will be notified prior to August 31, 2017.
